One fruit is rich in antioxidants, promotes heart health like no other food and is good for a man’s prostate. That fruit is the pomegranate. This information is courtesy of a post at Clevelandclinic.org
- Antioxidants. These protect our cells, particularly the DNA. In fact aging is attributed to cumulative damage to cell structures that is blocked by antioxidants. And pomegranates are very rich in antioxidants.
- Prostate health. One study found that pomegranate juice actually suppressed the growth of prostate cancer.
- Heart health. Pomegranate seems to prevent or reduce the formation of plaque in arteries. Here’s what researchers in Israel (where pomegranate is widely grown) had to say:
“In a study of healthy men, researchers from Israel recently concluded that pomegranate juice decreases the likelihood of LDL, the “bad” cholesterol that forms plaque. Another Israeli study showed a decrease in the development of atherosclerosis in mice whose diets were supplemented with pomegranate juice. Atherosclerosis is the buildup of fats, cholesterol and other substances in and on the artery walls, which can restrict blood flow.”
